Shri Dhanwantry Ayurvedic College and Hospital: Nurturing Ayurvedic Excellence Since 1979
Established in 1979, Shri Dhanwantry Ayurvedic College and Hospital stands as a beacon of traditional healing in the heart of Chandigarh. Affiliated with the esteemed Shri Krishna Ayush University, Haryana, the institution has been a stalwart in imparting education in the ancient science of Ayurveda. With its prime location in Sector 46-B, Chandigarh, the college boasts a history steeped in dedication to promoting and preserving the rich heritage of Ayurveda.
Education in Ayurveda, with its roots tracing back to the prestigious universities of Takshashila and Nalanda, flourished in ancient times. However, it endured challenges through the medieval era and British colonial rule. Post-independence, Ayurveda received a renewed impetus, gaining recognition and support from the Government of India.
Shri Dhanwantry Ayurvedic College takes pride in its association with Chandigarh, a modern and renowned city situated at the foothills of the Shivalik mountains. As the gateway to Himachal Pradesh and the capital of Punjab and Haryana, Chandigarh provides a fitting backdrop for the institution's pursuit of Ayurvedic excellence.
The college holds the distinction of being recognized by the Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM), New Delhi, and is affiliated with Shri Krishna Ayush University, Kurukshetra, for its B.A.M.S. (Ayurvedacharya) and MD courses. Over the years, the institution has produced more than 2500 skilled graduates, who have ventured into various healthcare domains, both urban and rural, and have made significant contributions in government services and private enterprises.
The Shri Dhanwantry Educational Society, formed on August 2, 1975, is the driving force behind the college's establishment. Comprising six renowned Ayurvedists and five socially conscious individuals, the society has played a pivotal role in nurturing the institution's growth. The society's visionary leaders, including Ayurvedists like Madan Mohan Pathak and social workers like B.D. Nanda, laid the foundation for the college's success.
With a sprawling three-acre campus in Sector 46-B, Chandigarh, the institution encompasses a college building, a hospital, a pharmacy, and a hostel. The society, with 38 active members, includes esteemed personalities such as Haryana Cabinet Ministers, IAS Officers, Advocates, Doctors, Engineers, and successful business personalities.
The institution's vision and mission are rooted in its commitment to Ayurveda's core principles:
-
Empowering Students: Shri Dhanwantry Ayurvedic College strives to imbue its students with the highest quality of traditional Ayurvedic values, equipping them to become torchbearers of this ancient science.
-
Center of Excellence: The college envisions establishing a Center of Excellence that extends Ayurvedic medical care to alleviate human suffering, reflecting the holistic approach that Ayurveda offers.
-
Uplifting Ayurveda: A fundamental aspect of the institution's mission is to contribute to the upliftment and advancement of the Ayurvedic science, ensuring its rightful place in modern healthcare.
In conclusion, Shri Dhanwantry Ayurvedic College and Hospital, with its rich history, dedicated society, and commitment to the principles of Ayurveda, stands as a testament to the revival and continuation of this ancient healing tradition in the contemporary world.
