NEET-UG, formerly known as the All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT), is a significant national-level entrance examination in India. It is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) and serves as the primary entrance test for students aspiring to pursue undergraduate Medical (MBBS), Dental (BDS), and AYUSH (BAMS, BUMS, BHMS, etc.) courses in both government and private institutions in India. Additionally, NEET-UG is also relevant for students looking to pursue a primary medical qualification abroad.
The results of NEET-UG are provided to the Directorate General of Health Services under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, as well as State Counselling Authorities, which use them for seat allocation in various medical colleges. This standardized exam has replaced several other pre-medical entrance tests that were previously conducted by individual states and medical colleges..
NEET-UG is notable for being the sole entrance test for admissions to MBBS and BDS colleges across India. It is also among the largest exams in the country in terms of the number of registered applicants.
With the enactment of the National Medical Commission (NMC) Act in September 2019, NEET-UG became the exclusive entrance test for admissions to medical colleges in India. This change also affected prestigious institutions like the All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research (JIPMER), which had previously conducted separate entrance exams.

NEET SEATS DISTRIBUTION 2024:
The NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) examination is a highly competitive and nationally recognized test used for admission to undergraduate medical and dental programs in India. The allocation of seats for NEET-qualified candidates is overseen by the AACCC (All India Counselling Committee for Centralized Counselling).
The AACCC is responsible for managing the centralized counselling process for admissions to medical and dental colleges across India. Through this counselling process, NEET-qualified candidates can secure seats in various medical and dental institutions nationwide. The AACCC ensures a transparent and equitable seat allocation procedure, considering NEET scores and other eligibility criteria set by regulatory bodies.
Eligible candidates who pass the NEET exam can take part in the AACCC counselling process. They need to register online, select their preferred colleges and courses, and engage in the choice locking procedure. Based on their NEET scores, choices, and seat availability, candidates are allotted seats in their desired colleges through a centralized seat allotment process managed by the AACCC.
The AACCC follows a merit-based approach, prioritizing candidates with higher NEET scores during the seat allocation process. However, candidates must also meet additional eligibility criteria, including age, nationality, and educational qualifications as specified by regulatory authorities.
